Cumberland's Campsite, Fort Augustus - CLOSED

We know some Challengers have been struggling to contact the campsite. Unfortunately today we have had confirmation that Cumberland's Campsite (and we presume the associated Stravaigers Lodge bunkhouse) has ceased trading and will not be open during the Challenge. There is no other campsite in Fort Augustus so, if you were planning to camp you, will need to make alternative arrangements. Morag's Hostel are full on 12th, 15th and 16th May but have beds on other nights. Alternatively you can change your route to wild camp before of after. For those heading over the Corrieyaraick Pass there is Blackburn Bothy which has decent pitches outside but it will add another 8-9km to your day.

Re: Cumberland's Campsite, Fort Augustus - CLOSED

We've done a bit of number crunching on the basis of Fort Augustus phone ins and stated accomodation. There are 42 people who have stated the campsite as their overnight halt point and another 6 who have not stated where they are staying. 21 of these will be there on Sunday 13th and 13 on Monday 14th with only a few on any other days. in addition there are another 11 planning to pass through who may wish to stay if ahead or behind schedule.
Suggestions of wild camping spots by the loch were made in a previous thread but these might be overwhelmed on these days if everyone was to wild camp there , not to mention the perennial issue of human waste disposal in populated area, so we would suggest looking at alternatives if you plan to camp on these days.

Re: Cumberland's Campsite, Fort Augustus - CLOSED

Thank you for the information and subsequent research. I'll have to have a look at that when I get back home.
