I am the child that you read about The one who has seen things that you thought were only in movies I am the one that you follow in the store Because the stereotype makes you think I want and need to steal from you I am that child the didn't understand That the color of my skin me so much to people I am a STRONG BLACK WOMAN I am the girl who left home went to college And came back a Woman of Sigma Gamma Rho Soroity Inc. I am a woman who has seen hate I am the same woman who has walked away from hate I have walk through the cotton fields of my past And cried the tears of the Black slaves I am a women who has been dealt the cruel hand of pain and sadness And made it to see another day I am a Mother I am the one who has loved and lost With few regrets I am...
