South African Jeff Coetzee and doubles partner Rogier Wassen from the Netherlands won the rain-delayed doubles final at the Heineken Open in Auckland, New Zealand on Sunday. David Ferrer captured the singles title on Saturday.
Top seeds Simon Aspelin from Sweden and Chris Haggard from South Africa led Coetzee and Wassen 7-6(9), 1-1 in the doubles final when play was suspended due to rain on Saturday.
Coetzee and Wassen were the sharpest team when the match resumed Sunday and went on to win 6-7(9), 6-3, 10-2.
"We've been playing aggressive and that's what won the title for us, ” Coetzee told reporters.
"It's my first win since the accident. The (five) finals I've been in I probably wanted it too much. I sent an SMS to my girlfriend and family and they said just go out and do it."
Wassen who defended his Auckland doubles title confirmed that he will be playing doubles with Coetzee in upcoming tournaments. |
