Is John Doe psuedonim? Anyway, I think you should dig deeper. The surface appearance of why our soldiers were sent out to Iraq covers appauling intrigue and skulduggery. These men have been misused for the most cynical of ends. They are not there to rescue the Iraq people or to combat terrorism or to get rid of weapons of mass distruction, but to secure control of the oil for the West.
You talk about Ba'athists shedding their uniforms, but actually the invading forces disbanded them and sent them home. This is a staggering act of ineptitude. First they sent thousands of men home to unemployment. Second they gave them their guns back - a sentimental gesture of the Americans who of course believe in the freedom to own guns! Thirdly they left themselves severly understaffed to keep law and order - so looting broke out unchecked. Fourthly Americans heavy-handedness provoked a backlash which they made worse through more heavy handedness. For more enlightment on the Iraq situation and how it could have been handled better - and non-violently - see Scilla Ellworthy's article on Falluja on www.opendemocracy.org. - an answer to your last question in fact. |
