Message:   After reading a news article about a man who refused to pay a percentage of taxes approx. equal to that which would fund "the war" it said "Why should I worry?" he said. "It's the poor devils in Iraq I am concerned about. Their houses are bombed, they live in fear, their communities are in ruins. I don't seek to decide where the money should go. It could go on education or health or perhaps into a non-violent conflict resolution."

the final sentance is what what grabed my attention most, soldiers are in iraq to guard the people again those who shed thier ba`ath uniforms on the day of invasion and went to thier homes, against those who kid naped, tortued, rape, and other horrible things, those who sneak out at night, and plant bombs to drive away those guards, those who do this to hoping they will withdraw, or be eliminated, so that they will again be free to do whatever they please the the civil people in iraq.

violent killers, and criminals, I see the cartoon of 3 cavemen, listed at the bottom of the page listing "Alternatives" the one striking the club is not the allied soldiers, but those who make bombs to kill, use guns to threaten, rape, kill. clearly not people who want "a peacefull resolution"

So then, what should be done in the presense of such characters? We are not even at war with a nation, but guarding ordinary people there, and trying to root out these savage killers.

What should we do? Deprive our guards of funds for food, and medical care? the few rounds they might have the opertunity to use again the assaints who sneak around, and do not enve wear a uniform? I think that only makes it worse.

What should be done?

listed under peacetaxsevens "Alternatives to war"

"Peace support operations are undertaken by military and civilian personnel working together in a particular conflict area as an impartial body, usually under the auspices of the UN or another multilateral institution. Peace support involve integrating a range of options, from enforcing ceasefires on warring parties, and policework, to observing and monitoring existing ceasefire agreements, in tandem with nonviolent, political, diplomatic, civilian and humanitarian peacebuilding work of the kinds described above. As peace support involves the deployment of armed forces and (potentially) the use of force (“peace enforcement”), peace support is not, strictly speaking, an alternative to violence, and arguably it would not be an appropriate recipient of funding from a peace tax pool. However, if properly mandated and resourced, and not used as a pretext for ideological or self-interested intervention by great powers, peace support certainly constitutes a preferable alternative to war. As such it would be a more positive use of military taxation than conventional war preparation, and a more coherent and appropriate complement to a nonviolent peace tax pool. At the moment its potential in all these respects remains unfulfilled."

Are soldiers not there to keep peace and security in a land filled with people with formerly wore uniforms as iraqi soldiers, who abused countless people, who killed many people?

What other civilized action could be done? pack up and abanondon the civilzed people of iraq to these less than friendly loving ba`ath members? I don't think that's a very good thing to do to them, in the name of peace, a solution must be found to stop these killings and abuses.

What can be done to make this happen faster and safer?
