Message:   I just got off the phone with my cousin Daniel Blanchard who posts a lot over here. He's doing ok, still without electricity, and just has some down branches in his neighborhood. A neighbor of his got robbed when he wasn't home -- everything in his house was stolen.

Daniel works at Louisiana State University at the general store for the university. He's been at work everyday because he is considered essential personnel. The PMAC (Pete Maravich Assembly Center) where LSU plays basketball is a shelter for special needs people in south Louisiana. Full of people. So his unit is working to aid the PMAC.

He told me that at LSU a lot of the beautiful old trees around campus are knocked down and quite a few buildings have the roof blown off.

His mom is ok in the nursing home. Her nursing home took evacuees from New Orleans and other nursing homes in south Louisiana. She has Alzheimer's Disease. Doesn't know what is going on. They were playing bingo while there were 90 mph winds outside the home and trees were being ripped up.

He asked if we had heard from Roy (Rocky) in Houma. TV in Baton Rouge is covering the storm much better than anything we are seeing, and he said Houma is pretty much destroyed. I don't know if he was exaggerating. If it's as bad as he said, then Houma didn't make it too well.

When I reached Daniel he was sitting in an air conditioned restaurant in Baton Rouge, one of the few with power, and the restaurant was serving more people than they ever had before. He was going to go home to his unpowered home and sweat it out overnight before going back to work tomorrow at LSU.

I told him we were thinking of him. He also sent good wishes to L'Anse Grise. He knew about the tornadoes that killed some people in Mamou, etc.

Well, that's about it for now. He'll try to get online and tell his own story when he has a chance.
