Message:   Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but, in my opinion, Florida is NOT a pet-friendly state. I retired here from California (which IS pet-friendly) and was shocked at the lack of concern the FL politicians have for animals.

Hunting is allowed year-round in many counties. Pet-friendly emergency shelters are non-existent in most counties.

There are animal rescue groups made up of wonderful people however they don't get much funding from the counties nor state.

So, if you're truly concerned about your pets, buy a home in an area NOT without a home owners assn., away from the coast.

TThe FloridaPets.net website is a ray of sunshine for pet lovers so check back frequently for information
