Message:   My grandmother is in her mid-sixties and she has a handicapped dog (Corgi mix). He injured his back and does not have the use of his back legs and the poor little guy is incontinent. My grandmother is not caring for him properly and he is suffering. She bought him a custom wheelchair but she does not put him in it so he drags his hind legs around. She also does not put diapers on him so he messes frequently and often drags his waste behind him as he tries to crawl away from it. His legs have very bad sores from the dragging. Entire layers of skin are missing and her vet is worried about infection.
In my good conscience, I cannot let this continue. I have tried and tried to talk to her, help her, and educate her regarding the type of care this pet needs.
I need some help. I cannot take him because I have 2 dogs of my own and live on the 3rd floor of my apartment complex.
I don't know what to do. I need help, he needs help.
Unfortunately, my grandmother cannot afford in home care for him and I cannot either. I have tried to find places to adopt/care for handicapped and disabled pets in my area and have had little luck. I am sorry to say that the Humane Society near me is not very helpful and neither was animal services. (I live in Tampa, FL. BTW)
Can anyone offer any advice and/or help me find someone who can take care of this dog properly?
