Rhodesia Regiment - The History

Alex Binda, author of The Saints - history of the Rhodesian Light Infantry and Masodja - history of the Rhodesian African Rifles is now working on the history of the Rhodesia Regiment.

Please support the compilation the history of Rhodesia's largest and longest serving military unit.  We need all material pertaining to the Rhodesia Regiment and Royal Rhodesia Regiment - photos, copies of documents, anecdotes, records etc.

Use this board to record your memories. All entries will be passed to Alex and material that he chooses to use will all be properly recorded and acknowledged.

Get it down folks because none of us are getting any younger. Do you want our friend on the left here who we have called 'Comrade Honest Ncube', (drawn specifically for this project by noted cartoonist Vic MacKenzie) to give the world his version of events?

This is going to be like eating an elephant - a daunting task when faced alone but together we can do it by taking one bite at a time.

Title for the book

Alex Binda writes:
Dear All,
A suggestion, as per "The Saints" I would like an appropriate title for the Rhodesia Regiment History to be chosen by former Rhodesia Regiment members. With the RLI history the appeal for a title resulted in70% including the word Saints i.e. 'Fighting Saints', 'Incredible Saints' 'the Saints' etc.

My own personal preference for the Rhodesia Regiment is:
MAIN TITLE:
"The Sunshine Soldiers"
SUBTITLE:
"The epic of the Rhodesia Regiment"

The only trouble with my main title is that I think there is already one like it out there (a spoof on some American Militaria). In any case its your history so let's see if you can come up with an appropriate main title. (I will keep the sub-title as above).

Look forward to hearing from you, Alex. abinda@tiscali.co.uk

Some more thoughts for the main title:
On Call
Doing their Duty
From Start to Finish
From Begining to End
The Happy Wanderers*

* The Happy Wanderer is the quick march played for the final parades for passing out recruits at Llewellin. It is also refered to by John Edmond in his recent song 'Rhodesia Regiment'
