I happened to tell my teller at the bank today that since loosing our Belle, that I was now actively seeking a new puppy. I showed her a snaphot of my daughters with Belle from last Christmas. She said she knew of the breed. I was surprised and asked her if she knew someone who had a Kuvasz. She told me that "Dr. 90210" from the reality TV show had gotten one.
While I would never begrudge a responsible, knowledgeable someone from owning one, I kind of wished that this now famous plastic surgeon had not made that public knowledge on TV. It concerns me because the last thing this breed needs are crazies who decide they have to have one because someone on TV has one. I know. It's a free country. And I can definitely appreciate wanting such a wonderful family guardian. I just wish this now public figure had kept his private familiy security matters private.
Yeah, if I'm so concerned about "privacy" regarding Kuvaszok why would I tell my bank teller? I live in a community where there are extremely few people have ever seen or heard of a Kuvasz, much less the knowledge of their temperments. Our Belle was the only Kuvasz in a large veterinary practice for the last 7 years. This teller had heard from my husband of our dog's passing and extended her condolences to me. She had no idea that our dog, besides being well loved by our family (and neighborhood children btw) was also an excellent guard dog. She knows now.
Is it a good thing for Kuvaszok to be known nationally from a TV show as aggressive protectors? I don't know. I guess Dobermans and German Shepherds have been known as such by the general public for a long time. Does it hurt their breed? Again, I don't know.
