Hi Amy,
Thanks for the heads up. Dan Wasson is working with the Broome County Shelter. Long time and high volume breeder Paul Korniczky died a few days ago and the status of the dogs is right now up in the air. Are they property of his estate? Will the family relinquish them to rescue? We just don't know yet. Here is the latest update from Dan, I'll post each one I get:
Not much has changed as of Friday evening. We will know early next week how many dogs, and what ages and genders, we are dealing with. Do not be concerned if you haven't heard anything from me yet. I have gotten over 200 messages about these dogs and I will attempt to answer everyone who sent me an email by early next week.
We have had some volunteers to help transport dogs and some inquiries as to how to adopt these dogs. We will have details available soon. We have had a person with LGD experience volunteer to help evaluate some of these dogs. I think that it is pretty likely that these bloodlines would produce some useful LGDs.
This all has happened since Wednesday afternoon. There are many things that need to be done before any of these dogs can be moved to a new home. The shelter and the people on the ground in NY are doing yeoman work in handling this overwhelming situation.
