Message:   A word on how music can be used as a meditation aid and spiritual tool. Anyone who has played with meditation has found it is almost impossible to keep a blank mind for any length of time. However, one can maintain short bursts/episodes/moments of emptiness for an extended period of time. If each moment of emptiness coincides with a musical note, music then becomes a vehicle for one’s mind to ride. (Chapter 8 of Iamai: A Journey into the Unseen)
This conjoined with a number of elements some of which are: a resetting of the mind by a continually changing focus, intention, introduction of spiritual concepts (words) into the musically altered state, etc. makes music a very powerful tool. When a group of like-minded people do this together, something very ‘special’ can happen.

Was at the High Sierra Music Festival July 4th (http://highsierramusic.com/). It was High in more ways than one. (It’s a shame that the most powerful moments on the main stage aren’t available at the website) It’s the people that make it special. To help give an idea of the mind-set of the group of people: imagine maybe ten thousand people are gathered together to hear some music and when the music is over, you look back, and see a very clean field. Everybody picked up after themselves. An excellent example of how ‘your daily life is your religion and your temple’. (Old Dead shows were like that before things got out of hand. )

The Dead called it the x factor; what the people bring to the show. Put a bunch of kind attentive people together, mix liberally with good music, add a touch of spiritual message or allegory, allow to cook for a musical set or two, and the result? “Where two or more of you are gathered in my name, there shall I be also.” There is only One Love.

Peace
