Larger tires.

I am running M/T 28x10.5x15's now with 4.55 gears now and at the top end am hitting about 6200 rpm and 105mph. If I go to a bigger tire, 29.5, will this slow down my mph?? I think this will also hurt my 60'right??? I think my cam is only rated for 5900rpm. any ideas???

Re: Larger tires.

The 29.5 inch tires will most likly rub on your frame. This happened to me with olds when I was using the 29.??" x 9" x 15" MT radials. Very good tires, if they hadn't rubbed I would still be using them. I saw no loss of ET or Speed, with the tall tires. Jon, remember your Grand Prix and my Olds are both "G" bodies. Try this web site for some good thoughs on "G" bodies and racing performance: http://www.maliburacing.com/

Try going to 3.93 gears. I use 3.70 gears in the Olds, and with 26.5x10x15 tires I am going through the top end at about 5800 rpms at 103 to 104 mph.

Re: Larger tires.

I used and still have a set of 29.5's but I used a wheel with a 3.5" back space to help clear the frame issue. My 60' was fine with the taller tires and 4:11 gears. 128MPH at 7100 RPM. Possible to do the tires and it is easier than gears. Let me know and maybe you can bring the car by to test fit off of my tires.
