Wood Carver

I posted on N.com but thought I would ask over here too. I'm looking for a good carver to do a carving from a picture of my son's dog(face only.) Would like to give it to him for a Christmas gift. Any suggestions and if so, where do I find them.

Good marnin' Bonnie

I answered you over there but I'll answer you again.Bobby ASH at Peaceful Gardens is as good as your going to get.I've known Bobby for 35 years ,through good periods and bad periods. His cravings are fantastic.Just to see some of his best work go to Cottontree Place and see the carving of Bob Marley preforming. You would think it was him !!! It is a carving of FULL SIZE !!! holding his guitar and leaning back singing as he always did.Bobby has also carved lots of doors and window trim as well.I have probably 8-12 carvings (gave some away as gifts).
There are some good carvers ,like the Mason guy,but there are lots that say they are carvers and are NOT !!!! NO money up front or you will kiss it good bye !!!. If you are having a commission done ,go have dinner with the craver just to build up a repoire and to find the final price with NO SURPRISES !!!!! at payment time. You will do well but be CAREFUL !!!!! we only want a happy report !!!!

Thanks OT....

Where is Peaceful Gardens? Will it be difficult to find him, do you think? No money up front? Will they actually carve something for you with nothing up front?

maybe...

constant monitoring maybe with money down.Alot of "carvers" just finish pieces and give the impression they carve them.

Re: Wood Carver

Another idea is Elvis on the cliffs. He has a booth located right before you get to Blue Castle in a vacant lot. He carved a wonderful cane for my father. I brought Elvis some ideas such as his love for sailing, riding Harleys, his age, and occupation and Elvis made a cane that fully represented my father.

There are several good carvers in Negril. I would find one that is nearby where you are staying so you can drop in during the week and see the progress being made. That was important to us.

CC, I remember seeing some of Elvis' work now that you mention it. I will check it out. Thanks!
