while in ja. a friend of mine passed...it took a long time for the wake and funeral as family needed to arrive from foreign...during the 3 weeks prior to the wake, each night i could here this eerie sound that i had not heard in ja. before sounded kinda like "aaacchhh" scary....so a friend was over and heard the sound and told me it was a patu.which has much folklore that went with it..new to me....well the first night of the wake the patu appeared in the tree in front of my house while i was sitting with friends reminiscing of our friend who had departed.. this was my first sighting of patu...all of a sudden the small stereo we were listening to flew off the window cill to the middle of the dining hall without a scratch to the stereo unit...so is it a who knows, or ?

Re: who knows

Interesting story. So many things in life just can't explain, but have strong feelings about. I know I would have had chill bumps if I had been there during that moment.

Re: who knows

Bozz, sorry to hear about your loss, but that is an awesome story.

My Dad passed away one year ago - The day of his funeral, there was a solo hawk flying over head at the cemetary. The next day, I was sitting on the front porch talking on the phone (and smoking) and a hawk landed on the front lawn and started squawking at me - This happened every day for about 3 weeks. My friends kept joking that my Dad was yelling at me for smoking. In fact, each time I was doing something that my Dad would not be happy about (loved him, but we have differing views), the hawk would appear.

On top of that, the day after his funeral, our oven light suddenly beeped and came on - it stayed on until you hit clear, then would happen again - at random times, usually when my mother's alarm went off in the am, or once when friends were over and leaving it happened as they walked by. We would joke that Dad was saying hello, or that he was ready for breakfast.

Within two weeks of his passing, all of his "toys" broke - The big screen TV, his digital camera, his recliner chair, - even the toilet in his bathroom! My family says that he was collecting his belongings and furnishing his new home!

Re: who knows

Heh Suz that's some story too! Bob says his stepdad told them no one else would ever drive his car. After he died, they were not able to get it started again...

Re: who knows

Wonderful stories!!

Will never forget when my daughter was in the hospital after her wreck and I was pretty devastated. One night I was sitting outside Praying and crying and all of a sudden I heard an Owl which I have always thought of as good luck and a Blessing to see. Don't ask me why but I have. Anyways he was just a baby and he just sat there looking at me. I knew then she was going to be OK. The Owl was there every night for about 2 weeks and then he just disappeared and I never seen him again.

I think an Owl is probably the most beautiful thing in the World next to the Moon.

Re: who knows

A friend told me a story once about attending a funeral and a strange event occuring. The deceased was a big duck hunter. They had him in a duck hunting tie at the wake. As my friend was leaving after the viewing out of now where a flock of several large geese flew over the building. They circled several times. Everyone looked up at the site. We'd like to believe that they were taking him to heaven.

Re: who knows

Tammy funny story about the owl. In my native american culture an owl is the opposite it is a "bad one". They are considered messengers of only bad news. So to me I absolutely HATE to see or hear an owl. The bald eagle is the highest most sacred of all birds on our culture so to me those are the most beautiful, majestic of all gods creatures. Funny how we learn something new everyday
