Thinking of staying there for 4 days when I first arrive. Have never stayed on the beach, so it will definitely be a different experience. Looked nice from Lola's pics and I like the idea of having a kitchenette.... |

Hi Mimi! No pool, and it is across from the beach. The rooms are very nice, however, as a hotel, it is very simple. For example, there is some yard around, but I didn't see any chairs in it. So it feels a little more like apartments than 'hotel'. JMO |

Thanks, Lola. I am going to call them in the next week. She sent me an email that the superior room with a/c and kitchenette is 75 USD inclusive of taxes. I thought that was higher than I expected, but worth it because of the kitchenette. |

MiMi you can do a lot better than $75 in June. They will give better rate than that as the place not been filled up in many years and especially not this time of year. You could stay directly on the beach for that price I'm sure. Maybe Yellow Bird? Travellers most definitely and you just can't beat their vibes around that place. Across the street many many places to choose from for that price. |

That's what I thought Tammy. Was surprised when they sent me that rate the other day. Was thinking of travellers, checked out their rates but don't think they have a kitchenette. |

So you think I should try Travellers? I am only booking for about 4 days.... And they will not be bothered with my jamaican friend staying with me? |

mimi...Travellers is very Jamaican friendly..you will have no problems with friends staying or visiting there. Agree with Tammy, with it being slow season you should be able to get a place for less money. Check around. Also approach them with what you are willing to pay with cash and see where that takes you. Just a thought. |

actually travellers is where i see MOSTLY jamaicans strolling and staying than any other hotel....think thats why i like it so much. oh....one thing, try to keep the noise (if ya know what i mean) down to a minimal in your room, walls in the cottage are thin, may need to bring duct tape LOL. |

I stayed at Golden Sunset once when I arrived in JA on December 26th, I didn't stay in the really nice part (TV Air Conditioner) though (those on are the right) when you first enter the gate. I stayed in the first set of cottages to the left, on the room on the very right hand side. I can't remember what they charged me, but it definitely wasn't $75, probably more likely around $60. And that was at peak Christmas holiday times. I then moved to the room to the left of that one (not as nice, no big closet) for around ?? $45 per night. All of those places share (I think three units share one kitchen, totally stocked with dishes, coffee maker, big refrigerator, big stove, cutlerly, etc. The way they seemed to do it though, was space people about so that everyone had their own kitchen. After April 15th the rates usually at ALL places come WAY down. I usually stay at Citronella up by the Lighthouse, but because there were a series of Gregory / Mighty Diamonds / etc etc shows night after night, I thought I would stay on the beach for the first time since 1974. I enjoyed it, for sure it was alot easier walking across the street or down the street a bit after the concert. There is no swimming pool there but the beach is right across the street. There is a huge nice pool bordering their property (Merrill's I think) and it is definitely easy to slip into there. The guards who walk the people from the beach hotel to the huge pool across the street had no problems with walking me in. I definitely think this would be a place where you could have a Jamaican friend visit but definitely not for the entire night. And for sure definitely not night after night. |

Here is the link to Rates for Golden Sunset: http://thegoldensunset.com/rates.html Rates will depend on whether you want A/C or not, and if you want a private kitchen, or shared w/ 2 or 3 rooms. They don't advertise the 'private kitchen' option, but pricing is (or was) the same as shared w/ 2 rooms. You can certainly get lower rates other places, but not for the same quality of room. If you want the beach and are willing to (possibly) share common areas with another bedroom, Yellow Bird is a great choice! |

She said the rates weren't up to date on the website, Lola...... That's what I am worried about, I do want a little quality...... not luxury, but you know what I mean.... Board house is fine as long as it's clean, etc.... |

MiMi tell me what you are looking for in a place. You are used to staying ayawd right? You want a little cottage in a wonderful yard across the street from the beach at a GREAT price? Family yawd? Dogs? Privacy? Security? Best food in Negril at Yawd prices? Kitchen setup so you can cook? Fridge and eat local at local prices? Tell me as I think for you I have the perfect place in mind and for you I will email them personally and make sure you are well taken care of. Just let me know what it is you really are looking for because this may not be the place. They don't have a pool but I got the hookup for that if you need a swim or you need to relax in a jacuzzi a couple times. Honestly I think this is the perfect spot for you and yours. Just the vibes you put out lady. |

Lola, I haven't heard real good stuff about heartbeat..... mostly that it's overpriced for what you get. I may just stay at Xtabi, they are fine with my friend and the price is decent... BUT, I did really want to try the beach side for a change. Tammy, thanks for your input, will send you an email when I get home tonight! |
