Castle Dale Utah BLM horse auction/adoption
We went to the BLM auction corrals on Friday, just to look at the horses. There were about 10 pens, with 8 to 10 horses in each pen. Most of the horses were fillies or mares?? There was only 1 or 2 horses that I liked. The little yearling fillies were so cute & pretty. No duns, some pretty ones with brown & grey blotches on them. Most of the mustangs were huge, not much like our little "Spanish Sulphurs". Some halter broke horses from Gunnison Prison, were there. They weren't as scared looking as the other mustangs.  As I was looking in the different pens, a yearling filly came over to me, she sniffed my hand & I gently patted her, as if to say, "take me home with you", then she was pushed out of the way by another, it was getting a bit wild, so I walked on by. All of the 4H / Rodeo buildings in that area were white. The heat just bounced around & made it very uncomfortable. It was hot out, only 92 degrees, slight wind & humid. But there wasn't any cover for the horses & buyers, I bet those aluminium bleachers were hot today! The BLM had small two small tents set up. I met Eric & Lisa Reed of BLM Fillmore; Met Cliff Tipton, he was one of the guys who was in the Mustang Makeover. I made him blush, when I told him that he was famous! Cliff gave a couple of gentling demos. I met our local Price BLM guy, Mike Tweddwell. I had emailed at one time or another everyone there, except for Cliff, but I did email his wife Janet,who is part of the "IWHBA" Utah's Wild Horse mentoring group ! I dropped all of famous names I knew. We chatted about Dr. Gus Cothran & his testings, we discussed Dr.Jay Kirkpatrick & about birth control for the mustangs, we all agreed that something needed to be done; we felt sorry for the Arizona Cerbat Mustangs, as they are rarely gathered. The Mt.Lions eat too many of them. Mary Anne Thompson of the SMR aka MAT, has Cerbats. We told them about Hardy Oelke, can you believe it, they never heard of Hardy & his Sorraias! We talked about Gus Warr working in SLC & that Chad Hunter was now the person to contact for the Sulphurs & for most of the other HMAs in STATE. Everyone there knew about Naylene Nield & we talked about Ron Roubidoux. Lisa Reed said that, she and her husband Eric were driving along Hwy 10, on their way to Castle Dale, said they saw a nice big green pasture with about 8 or 9 duns out grazing. Eric looked at her & said, this must be Judy Cubel's horses! NEAT HUH? When we were getting ready to leave, Lisa said that either this year or next they plan to GATHER THE SULPHURS, if they can get the funding... Mike from the Price BLM & Lisa from the Fillmore BLM, said that Chuck & I need to get our corrals built & BLM approved, just in case we see a fantastic Sulphur we can't pass up... maybe another SULPHUR's CHANCE or another RIZADA or another TIA? All of the BLM people all pleasant and nice. I got some free BLM stuff: three Mustang posters, which I plan to hang up in my office, key rings, bumper sticker, a magnet, and an ink pen. The adoption was today, Sat. June 29. Chuck and I didn't go. Last week we cut and baled our alfalfa hay. With the help of our two kids, we were able to get all 185 bales stacked & covered. We are hoping to get another cutting in Aug. or Sept. |

Thanks Judy. I hope you had a great time. I always love to go and look at all the horses, my only problem is that I end up taking at least one home.....then you wonder how I ended up with 30 LOL

Did you read about the adoption where I said.....
When we were getting ready to leave, Lisa said that either this year or next they plan to GATHER THE SULPHURS, if they can get the funding... Mike from the Price BLM & Lisa from the Fillmore BLM, said that Chuck & I need to get our corrals built & BLM approved, just in case we see a fantastic Sulphur we can't pass up... maybe another SULPHUR's CHANCE or another RIZADA or another TIA? |
