WOO HOO - ITS A GIRL
She's so fuzzy, you cant see her stripes. Up close and personal, you can see them up to her legs. |

She is BEAUTIFUL!! Congratulations Judy!! You never can see their stripes very good in pictures especially when they are first born and in their foal coat. After she sheds out you will be able to see her stripes in pictures. |

I was afraid the foal would be totally black or totally white! So many people across the USA have been watching CLO. I am sorry that I missed the birth, but I am just happy everything was okay. CLO had the foal before 8am. Our neighbor came home from work (nite shift) and the foal was clean and dry and learning to nurse. Chuck is the ONLY one going in to change bedding and water the pair. |

Last night CLO was eating her hay but Baby wanted to eat too, CLO moved away from her and kept eating her hay. Then Baby ran over to her mom and stamped her feet like a spoiled child demanding to be fed! If you are interested, I will be updating CLOs filly fotos weekly. |

So this is normal? "Baby" clears the stems out of the way and "eats" the leaves. Chuck said that "Baby" has been chewing the hay, but after she gets all the taste out, she lets the fiber parts fall out of her mouth. |

Yes its very normal and they don't even have teeth until 7 days old They just pick it up from their moms and follow their example THe y do swallow the leaves but because they have no teeth they don't eat the stems.

Congratulations, Judy! I'm so happy for you. She is beautiful. And thriving, it looks like. I know you are disappointed to have missed the birth, but quite frankly, there is much to be said for waking up to the sight of a happy, healthy newborn already on its feet and sucking. There can be much tension in watching that first-time struggle of the newborn to get to its feet. The ending is not always a happy one. The first nursing, the first pee, the first poop... We watch for these things in anxiety, hoping that all the plumbing works correctly (at both ends)! You were spared those anxious moments. Your mare had it all under control. What a good mama. Great photos. She is as cute as they get. Deb |
