How to offer homes for kids--Important Info!

It is very generous of you all who want to offer homes for unaccompanied children or orphaned children. However, it is very unlikely officials will just hand over these kids to us. No matter how good our intentions, they have to ensure the kids best interests are protected.

Could someone check with Department of Children and Families on the requirements to become foster parents for the Katrina kids and post a message one what they find out?

Again, it is very generous to open your homes to the kids but we need to know the requirement. They are vastly different for kids as opposed to adults! As it should be! We don't want to tramatize these little people any more than they have already been!

Once we have been accepted to be foster parents, the need will continue well after these kids have been taken care of. As an offshoot to being registered with DFC as a foster parent, many of you may choose to continue foster parenting!

Re: How to offer homes for kids--Important Info!

Gail,
I have emailed Dcf of FLorida.
I do know that there is a class called MAPP for fostering or adoptive familes. We have info and are starting that class soon. My question was and I know that they have this is, are they offering emergency foster care Lic. to people seeking to foster.
It is a long process and there are background, fingerprinting and home inspections. just to name a few that are involved in this process. So those of us wishing to help in this way would just need to keep posting and get in touch with DCF.

Tammy,
Could you post the information you get from DCF? For those already set up as foster homes, it would be good for those people to be actively persuing the option of taking kids from the Gulf Coast.
Thank you!

I added a link to DCF's contact info page so people can call or email them directly (if they live in FL). Thanks so much for your help, Tammy!
