Single 28 yr old mother, Orlando, FL offer for an orphaned child

This offer is for the American Red Cross, Catholic Charity or any other agency that may have children (any race) that were orphaned or seperated from their family. I am sorry that I am unable to provide housing for an adult out of safety concerns for my own children & the child I will provide assistance to. I am also not able to accomodate more than 1 child financially. I am a single 28 year old mother of 5 children ages: 12-girl, 10-girl, 9-boy, 7-boy & girl (twins). I live in an East Orlando Suburban neighborhood with low to nil crime. I cook, clean & nurture. I have almost 12 years experience as a parent. I work for an employment agency @ Title & Mortgage Agencies. I am willing to offer a clean, safe home to a displaced child (preferrably the age of my own children) whom WILL be able to attend elementary school during the daytime with my own children (No worries about school registration - Local news reported that for now that info will be waived, the important thing is to get the child in school ASAP!)My children attend an "A" rated school (I guess that wouldn't much matter, just an informative) which is in walking distance from my home ALTHOUGH I drive them to school daily. I am not independantly wealthy (NOT EVEN CLOSE BUT I AM RICH @ HEART!) I somehow manage being able to take my kids on a weekly weekend outing (whether it be to a movie, out to dinner, a special event, or the park)! In other words the child will be in a loving & caring home. The child will have to be brought to my home, for I can not travel far, I can't put the wear & tear and mileage on my vehicle, BUT I can do what I can to help with the process. I live in a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom home, screened in lanai, and huge yard. The child would be able to sleep in one of the kids bedrooms. I know I don't have much to offer as far as living space for adults. I am just willing to lend a helping hand. I do not own any pets. I will provide immediate health care (a medical exam will be mandatory & definately needed), clothing, a positive living environment, and anything else a mother would provide for her children. Please let me help! A.K.

Asha, we are trying to find out what DFC will require for foster parenting. While I realize your intentions are good, it is unlikely they will hand over unaccompanied kids without a background check at minimum.

Will let you know if we hear the requirements.

God bless you for wanting to take in a child!

Asha,
It is wonderful that you are willing to take a child into your home! Unfortunately, we are not authorized to place minors in alternative housing. You would need to become certified as a foster parent in order to take in a child. If that's something you are interested in doing, you can contact the National Foster Parent Association (http://www.nfpainc.org). They can help you get in touch with local officials in order to start the process.
God Bless You!

Re: Single 28 yr old mother, Orlando, FL offer for an orphaned child

Thank you so much for the feedback.. I didn't know for sure, but I had an idea that something like this would prevent me from caring for a child. I thought that maybe by there possibly being so many ophan children, that they might be able to place one in my home. I am willing to proceed with the process of becoming a foster parent. Although my main goal and focus is on a child from that region.

I just think it's really important to get these children into school, and back to living a normal life.
