Re: Transitioning at Work

Zee and I are lucky enough to live in the same place, so we get to be friends offline, too. So, Zee already knows my story about workplace and transition. I'm happy to tell anything about it and in fact to answer just about any questions for anyone who has any. Like most of us here, I can mainly only share my own personal experiences, which will overlap with some and vary from others out there. I also have started collecting a few good internet resources and can share those. I'm not going to tell my whole personal work story in this post, but I did want to share a few good web sites that might be helpful/pertinent:

http://www.hrc.org/Template.cfm?Section=Coming_Out_as_Transgender&Template=/ContentManagement/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentID=21873

http://www.transgenderlaw.org/employer/index.htm

http://www.gpac.org/workplace/resources.html

http://www.ftmi.org/ (this one you go way down the menu on the left and at the bottom is employment resources.

I know some of these pages are overwhelming, but I'm a reader. The more I can get my hands on the better. I wanted to put it all out there for folks like that. I think you could pull out a smaller sampling of things just by their titles for stuff you need specific help with - legal info, transition guides for HR profs, whatever.

Re: Transitioning at Work

I have been very fortunate as far as work is concerned. I work for a HUGE corporation. I wrote a letter and talked to my boss about my transition. He was VERY supportive. He told me if I have any problems, he will take care of them ASAP anytime day or night. I have been very lucky. My boss would NEVER judge anyone for who or what they are.

I wrote a letter, and talked to him about it. He wanted to here wha tI had to say rather then read a letter. He forwarded to HR, and the HR lady called me and she was there to support me 100% and she wanted to know if I needed any help talking to my crew or any training that I felt may be nessessary. I was ok, my crew supports me 100% and I may be getting promoted!! I will find out tomorrow!!! I am keeping my fingers crossed!
BTW, I am a store manager for Jiffy Lube! Great Company to work for!!!
