So, what's everyone's diagnosis?

Yeah that probably sounds like a ******* question, but I notice that lots of us have various root causes. Like some guys are GID, others are Gender Dysphoric, while others have different medical conditions.

I have testicular feminization. Anyone else?

Re: So, what's everyone's diagnosis?

Alas, I fell victim to GID, but now I'm not sure what else to do. I have it, I'm doin the best I can to live full time before getting my T, and it ain't working. I'm movin to Dallas around the first of June, so hopefully it will be easier to transition there, rather than here in Redneckville, USA. The main problems I have are the voice and lack of a goatee. Haha! Any suggestions on how to fix either one, Jay? Thanks man! Interesting thread, btw.

Re: So, what's everyone's diagnosis?

I wish I could tell ya something, but alas I'm also missing the voice and goatee!

How do they diagnose someone with GID? I've never asked anyone. With me it was hormone testing and genetic mapping to determine just why things weren't adding up so to speak lol

Re: So, what's everyone's diagnosis?

Well, for me, I was declared a "textbook case". In other words, I talked to my shrink, she read the criteria for GID outloud, and the diagnosis was made. I'm not sure how it works with everyone else, but that's my story.

Re: So, what's everyone's diagnosis?

GID. Though there's a reason for it. I chose it. Basically my therapist was a transwoman who hated the DSM and let me pick from a list of diagnosis when it came to that bit of trouble. I told her I wanted whatever would be the easiest for me to get the things I wanted like surgery. So we went with that one.

I also have adjustment disorder with anxiety and depression, PTSD, and cyclothymia.

Re: So, what's everyone's diagnosis?

How does one go about getting diagnosed? Because if what I read is correct, you have to be diagnosed with GID or something similar to get hormones and surgury and such. do you have to have a sympathetic therapist?

Thanks guys!

Re: So, what's everyone's diagnosis?

Uhhhh to be diagnosed you actually have to have it. You don't need a "special" therapist. Just one that does their job. Even if you live in bum**** nowhere, and go in saying you think you're having a gender identity crisis, it's their job to figure out what's going on.

Re: So, what's everyone's diagnosis?

My theripist hated writting my T letter because it had to say I had GID. SHe did not agree with it, but it was nessessary for my T script. It is just a letter and thats it, a piece of paper that you will never see again. My therapist says my condition is not psychological and it is a medical condition and that is all that matters. She deemed my a psychologically fit person with no psychological disorders.

Re: So, what's everyone's diagnosis?

I'd say Jim is the only one I agree with here. GID is an atiquated idea that lists us forever as having a mental health difunction in order to recieve healthcare. Forget them all. If you are trans you are trans. It's great, and not a mental health problem. Unfortunately it is often a required diagnosis to recieve care. Do your best to get to a liberal clinic with trans experience- a lot of them do not follow the diagnosis. Check out this link for some up to date info.

"Medical Therapy and Health Maintenance for Transgender Men"

Google it. Download it. Its amazing. And feel free to have your doc read it as well.

I personally fought with my docs and ultimately got on T and got care without a letter or diagnosis. I am transgendered like many others before. I do not have mental health issues. At the same time, therepy can be really helpful to many of us. just remember when you feel like it's hopeless, you aren't alone and you are in charge of your medical care.
