More violence at school
I was at school today, and I got attacked again. Right out in the open this time.
Some random guy, a total stranger to me, passes me in the hall, stops and sucker punches me in the chest while calling me "f#cking freak." I exploded in pain and anger, grabbed him by the shirt and slammed him into the wall repeatedly.
He appologized saying, "hey, I'm sorry I was told there was a transexual on campus and I thought you were it, sorry."
WTF is college coming to? I mean this is the kinda crap I had to take in high school. I guess I'm lucky that I'm strong enough to fight back now.
Oh and this was witnessed by enough people to prove I was defending myself, so no trouble or anything.

Re: More violence at school
hey man.
this may be a stupid question (since I know nothing about where you go to school, your experience with transition, or your classmates), but is there a ***** or trans resource center on campus? At my collge we have a few trans-friendly resouces that definately help out with violence prevention. I am enraged that trans guys can't walk down a hallway at school without getting suckerpunched.
It sounds like you can take care of yourself pretty well, but I urge you to take advantage of any other resources you can.
keep on keepin' on,
mason
PS: happy fri the 13th everybody

Re: More violence at school
Hey Mason, thanks for replying.
Nah, my school doesn't have any resources. We have a GLBT club, but they told me they didn't want "my kind" around. I guess it should be a GLB club. Some of the gay/lesbian students attack me too. The lesbians are the worst, everyday I get called "Scab" and "Traitor" It's hell dude.
Later.

Re: More violence at school
Hey Jay -
Are you comfortable telling us any more specifically where you are? I'm a computer whiz and would love to try to find you any resources that are even remotely local to you. I am so glad you are here on the boards, as we can support you to some extent. But nothing subs for people, in person, who you can talk to and be accepted by. Let me know if you feel like you can give any more info about where you're at, brother.

Re: More violence at school
Hey Adrien-
I don't mind sharing my location with everyone. I live in Lamar County GA, in the town of Barnesville.
I've tried to become involved with PFLAG, there is a chapter about 40 miles from me, but they said they were "full" and didn't need any transpeople.
I could use some trans friends bros.

Re: More violence at school
Are you in a position to get to Atlanta to meet people and get some support? I'm from the South, Mississippi, but live in New Mexico now. Anyway, I had to check a map to see where Barnesville is, growing up all over the south I still hadn't heard of it. It looks like you wouldn't be more than an hour's drive from there, but if you don't have transportation it would be difficult. If you can get to Atlanta, I think there would be some great groups. I found these, but haven't checked into them in detail to see who they serve. Is Atlanta an option for you? In paraticular, Youth Pride at the bottom seems like a good place to start. They have a contact phone number, are all about young people and even if you couldn't get to Decatur, they might be able to get you in touch with more local resources. Let me know if I can help more...

Re: More violence at school
jay, can I ask you how old you are? I was attacked a lot as a young rural ***** growing up in Maine. I have three suggestions.
1. Carry something sharp. Keys are good. Be prepared. Be safe.
2. If you feel safe enough to do it, file a report with the school. Nail the school and. or the GLBT group with shame. If the group has email, get it for us so we can educate them.
3. Some fights are best walked away from. We like live trannies best. Perhaps you should look into moving somewhere safer. I've had to a few times, and I think its the reason I still ive on earth.
keep your head up and watch your back. most guys I have found respond really well to handcuffs backed up by assault charges. but of course you have to weigh out the safety options. There is a public safety policy at your school. You might do well to become familiar with it and bring it even annonymously to the attention of the admin.

Good god, what a *******. I'm so sorry that happened to you, Jay. Make sure you're able to protect yourself, and if all else fails, take it to the authorities. Good luck.
