Deaded PAP

I have been on T for two years. My doctor wants me to get a pap. I have avoided the subject for two years, but now I have to face it. My doctor has pretty much said that if I don't get the pap she will not treat me. If it is absolutely necessary then I will get it. I just don't feel like I should be forced to do it. It should be my choice to get one or not. People refuse all sorts of medical care. And it should be the patient's personal choice to accept or deny. I able to find a doc in my area. The doctor I see n live in Melbourne, FL and haven't really beenow is in Orlando. Any suggestions or comments??

Re: Deaded PAP

Cezar, I know it feels like an insult to the man you are, but the important thing is your health and your journey. If getting the Pap helps you become the man you are meant to be, suck it up and do it. Just keep you eye on the end result.

Re: Deaded PAP

Dude Cezar, It's like anything we hate, just go in get it done and then be done with it man. Your health shoul dbe the number one thing in your life. Do it for yourself. You don't want to end up with cancer and it is to late. You are the most important thing to your self in this world and you need to stay healthy to live a long happy life. Just get it done, go get drunk afterwards and forget about it...lol

You can do it man!!!
I hate going to work everyday, but I do it...LMAO ha ha

Re: Dreaded PAP

Yeah, I understand what you guys are saying.. I have done many things i hate. I have done a PAP before. I had absolutely no choice at that time. But Cancer, car accident, what ever it is I'm gonna die. PERIOD. But it is a doctor's job to provide us with medical attention and I feel it should be our choice. I don't feel like I should be forced to get anything.

Re: Deaded PAP

Hey Cezar,

No one likes to be forced to do anything. This is true... but... if you dont get the PAP done by your doctor, you will be FORCED to find another who will treat you. So... its about choices, and which choice you want to make. A doctor who obviously cares about your health? Or one you do not know and will have to establish a new history with, and you are STILL going to have to get that PAP. Your Health is not anything to risk or take chances with. Get the Pap man. They suck.. but get it done for YOU.

Good luck bro,

Alec

Re: Deaded PAP

Hey Cezar.. You just saved me from starting my own thread on this very subject man!
I was just holding this convo with my doctor and she said this to me
"I cant ,with all good conscious , give you something that may kill you no matter how good it is for you"
She is making me get one pap and promised me it will be my last one before I get my hyto..
Tho I know Im gonna feel like im being raped.(thinkin about havin me a couple beers before going there)
I feel that my doc has showed me enough respect to try and help me (when no one else would) so, I am thinking I will try top help her and make her job easier...
Goodluck man

Hey Deeds, sounds like your dr. has respect for you man. That's cool. Sometimes we gotta do what we dont wanna do just to protect our health. Gotta suck it up and do it. If it helps, man, know we are all with ya and givin ya strength to get thru it. Been there done that. just get thru it.

Re: Dreaded PAP

lol... I am going to. But I'm going to wait till the last minute. I don't have to see my doc untill later on in the year. You know, if I do find a different doc I would see them. I really don't want to I have a friend that has been seeing a doc for 3 years and he's never had to get one. I tried o switch to him, but he doesn't accept patient without insurance. Maybe I'll find a different one. But if I have to I will.

Re: Deaded PAP

I have no choice but to get paps every 3 months. I have poly cystic overies and displasia/hpv. I will be getting a hystro. My insurance is 80/20, so I will have to save at least $2,000 just to get my hystro done. Take care of your health man. The last thing you want is to get cancer because of T.

Re: Deaded PAP

I just wanted to state something. We are all men. Period. Getting a PAP, breast exam, or any other embarassing medical testing doesn't change that. We're just men who were born a wee bit different. Cezar- just remember you are a man, and NOTHING can take that from you.

Re: Deaded PAP

Jay, I have no issues with being a man. I know what I am and noting makes me feel uncomfartable about that. It's the fact of someone putting things where I don't want them. I had a PAP before and it wasn't great. Guys, I know all the jazz about health, but I mean we're not all gonna live forever and I'm cool. I am comfortable. ot saying that I want to put myself in danger, but I feel like I've accomplished it and if I have to I wll, but I would rather not.

Re: Deaded PAP

Cezar- I see what you're saying now. I have to say that I agree with you. In fact I realize that I'm in a similar position. I've never had a hystorectomy, nor do I plan to. Everywhere I turn it seems that all I hear is what a mistake I'm making. I want to say, "yeah and it's my mistake to make." Seriously, I choose not to have one because I can't be put to sleep for surgery. I have only a 35% change of waking up due to various respiratory disorders. Many people tell me that I need to stop taking hormones until I am in a position to have a hysto, but I tell then that I'd rather live to be 50 as the man I am, than live to be 100 as something I'm not. You're right you should not be forced to do anything.

Re: Deaded PAP

Remember, you have absolute rights to reproductive health care. Including the right to refuse a PAP. Now, you should get one, because there are risks related to being on T. However it is illegal for your doc to threaten punitive actions like discontinuing care. That would constitute non consent on your part. Look into the legalities, get your doc in line or find a new one. And don't be afraid to right a formal patient complaint to the medical dept. You don't need that.

Remember that your doc is there to guide you but you are in charge. its hard but we are paving the way for the next guys in line. Think of it like this: if a woman is refused care by her male doc because she refuses a pap, does that sound legit? NO!!!

Good luck. Stand your ground, and do your best to find a doc you feel comfortable with so you can get that pap and feel healthier for it.
