switching from injectable to Andro Gel

Hey guys. I am a 27 yr old trans man, have been on injectable T for 3 years now and am considering switching to Andro Gel. My new job covers all aspects of transitioning therapy, to hormones, to surgery so now price is no longer an issue. I have been on a relatively "low" dose compared to what is considered the "average": 100mg every 2 weeks, I am very happy with the results of the injectable, all my hormone levels are within the normal range, but am definatly over the needles and sore butt cheeks. Has anyone else switched from one to the other? If so I would like to speak to you about your experiences. any noticable differnces? dosages? etc... feel free to reply to my email if prefered.

Thanks!
Lee

Re: switching from injectable to Andro Gel

Hey guy I am on Androgel right now its what the Endo wants, not me. I wanted injectables and still do and am going around and around with her trying to get it. I can not afford to stay on Androgel it is $263.00 for a 30 day supply I just started on T in Feb. So still on my first script. I have not been on a whole month yet and have some changes. I did not expect any thing to happen yet but someone told me this is not normal to have the changes start and suggested that maybe I was pre-disposed to Androgens. I dont know. I dont want to tell my Endo cause she is such a flake I am afraid she will want to lower my dose. I am only on 5g a day. I have had some hair growth on my upper lip and side burn area. My voice started cracking after just a few days and has droped just a hair and is back to craking again. If you would like to know more or chat hit me up here or at "justme4u0@lycos.com"

Re: switching from injectable to Andro Gel

Hey Louis..

I was on injectable T for about 11 months , and started doing the patches 5MG daily about 3 months ago..I want to go back to injectable because I am no longer seeing any changes whatsoever. And I have no libido anymore..I feel kinda blase as opposed to being on T...

Re: switching from injectable to Andro Gel

Hi Louis. I've been on gel for a year but eventualy came back to injection. Many reasons for that :
1. Gel is expensive and not paid by insurance in my coutry (switzerland)
2. Gel is to be spread everyday on body. That takes a huge discipline.
3. Gel is "shared" with people you get physical contact with. Not very practical
4. After a year it started to burn my skin
5. Physical changes where slowed
6. Libido was low...
I went back to injections and am trying a new product called Nebido injected once every three months with no problems so far...

Re: switching from injectable to Andro Gel

I never cease to be amazed at the WIDE spectrum one sees with hormone use. I hear so many guys talking down about anything but the injectable hormones, and my experience has been the exact opposite. I have never used injectable T, only topical. I started on Androgel, the brand name. Last year, my endo doc found out about a local compounding pharmacy. So, they make their own T cream, which I am now on. My virilization has been consistent and extremely satisfactory. I can't compare to my own results on injectables, but I have never had any reason to want to go that route from topical. Two years into HRT, my voice is totally changed, I have full beard growth, cessation of menses, body fat redistribution, high libido, low anger, everything I could ask for. From everything I have read, my changes came at the same average time thresholds as guys using other forms of T. I think there is no single good answer to a question like this. If one way doesn't seem to work as well for you, you can always try another down the road. But I don't think one man's dislike for AndroGel makes a blanket case for all guys to distrust its efficacy - seems like individual chemistry and sensitivity plays a big part.

Re: switching from injectable to Andro Gel

Hey guys, it's really important to remember that if you have a doctor you don't like, you need to switch doctors. Then puberty sets in at different rated for all guys, bio and trans. So quit comparing and see what feels good to you. Don't forget that you are in charge of your health, Doc's are just there to help.

Also, there is a daily patch out there. Easier to use than androgel, some minor side effects like skin irritation. And dosage should be based on your blood levels, not on what some guy on a chat site does..
