T use and cancer risk

I am sure you all remember the debate about this.

I stated that there was a definite link and that my Endo stated it and I supported it without question.

To date, he has never given me the information for me to post and given something that occurred during my last visit in April 2006, I feel my defense of this was unfounded.

In other words, I was wrong for sticking by his word so diligently and taking his word as gospel.

The issue that occurred during my last visit was when I brought up guys on T having hot flashes before the next injection was due or when it was overdue.

He said it was psychological - all in our heads.

I knew then, my Endo, while very good at helping TS people without judgment, is full of **** in some ways.

This taught me a lesson - just because someone is a doctor doesn't mean they are always right and I don't have to take it at face value then pass it along especially when it's something as scarey as cancer.

When you have your hyst is up to you and your doctor. I have found no hard facts on the validity of this subject.

Do what you feel is best but please get a pap smear once a year until you can have the surgery, just to be safe.

Re: T use and cancer risk

I highly appreciate this post.

In speaking with my endocrinologist about the exact same subject, I got a similar response to what you just mentioned (there are no real studies that prove a correlation). My, endo, however, does suggest transmen getting hysterectomies on the basis of our ability to take less testosterone after one, which is healthier for the body in general.

It's good to know this, however, especially for those of us who may not be able to afford a hysto (or be able to afford one soon), and I agree with the suggestion of a pap smear (even though they can be totally debilitating and uncomfortable, especially for transmen).

Re: T use and cancer risk

Thank you so much for these posts! I've been trying to find any definative info on the correlation between cancer & T for the transman. There just hasn't been enough research to confirm any theories. I really like the point about being able to take less testosterone after getting one, though. I hadn't thought of that before. There are a couple great doctors in Minneapolis and I don't have any problem getting my pap every year. I don't even care about getting a hysto, but I *would* like to be able to take less T. Something to think about, anyway.

Re: T use and cancer risk

I have been on T for two years. My doctor wants me to get a pap. I have avoided the subject for two years, but now I have to face it. My doctor has pretty much said that if I don't get the pap she will not treat me. If it is absolutely necessary then I will get it. I just don't feel like I should be forced to do it. It should be my choice to get one or not. People refuse all sorts of medical care. And it should be the patient's personal choice to accept or deny. I able to find a doc in my area. The doctor I see n live in Melbourne, FL and haven't really beenow is in Orlando. Any suggestions or comments??

Re: T use and cancer risk

Hey guys, I need to ask this question because it has me totally baffled....

I have been on T since Dec 2005, and about 5 weeks ago I suddenly started cramping and bleeding.. So my doc immediately took me off T and it stopped.. I had a pap and the results came back normal.. Well, two days ago I went back on T and I started cramping and bleeding again... Has this ever happened to anyone else? why is this happeneing ?

Re: T use and cancer risk

Yaou may have somethign going on in there. I would suggest getting an Ultra sound done of you overies, to rule out PCOS or something like that. Also get a colposcapy done. These things detect things a pap can't and never will. Worry about your health 1st and foremost man! Good luck and keep us posted.
