We had recently called a professional Boiler Engineer to investigate a recent performnace problem we were experiencing with our Central Heating Boiler.
On inspection by the Engineer he discovered that our Gas supply was contaminated by what appears to be like dried paint particles which are dark grey in colour and quite soft.
The Engineer advised that this is normally caused by local Gas Pipe works that may be being carried out locally and that the Gas Engineers instead of clearing the debris within the pipes as they should do, they just leave it in and then it ends up wherever it travels within the Gas Pipework i.e. Household Gas metres and appliances.
We called out British Gas by way of an emergency call-out (as they were not prepared to come out by any other means!!). On attendance, the BGas Engineer seemed very familiar with the debrees we showed him, but, he seemed very un-comfortable and I believe, tried to cover this up by suggesting that it was our copper pipes.
He stated that certain copper pipes - mainly ones imported from the Far East, tend to have this problem but could not, after requesting, offer any attainable reasoning behind it, nor could he suggest any department that could help me within British Gas, but merely suggested for us to have all of our Gas Pipes replaced!!
His technical desciption of this contamination, if you can call it that (I certainly won't) is that it is - "Schaling of the Pipes".
Personally, I think I've been fed a load of B*~~%*it and I would be interested to hear from any other people within Cogenhoe that may also have experienced or are experiencing the same problem.
Our repair costs came to £140.00 and personally I believe British Gas are responsible for this cost.
