Although I do not reside in Cogenhoe, I work and socialise in the village. I drive past the site of the now missing bench several times a week. I have often seen both elderly and parents with young children using this bench either to sit and watch the world go by, waiting for a bus or using it as a resting place on the way too or from the shop. I often wait outside for my friend when the youths in question are there, on these occasions, I have never seen them doing anything other than chatting and having a laugh. Surely the residents responsible for insisting the bench be removed can remember being teenagers themselves and what it was like to want somewhere to 'hang' with friends.
Only the other week I passed the site and saw an elderly gentleman standing there looking quite bewildered obviously wondering where on earth the bench had gone!
For goodness sake if Lisa Scotford does not object to the youths meeting at this site, then as the nearest resident her opinions should be taken into consideration along with others in the village who want it put back. So please put the bench back where it belongs. It was after all donated for the purpose of being used by the people of Cogenhoe, how is this now being achieved if it is no longer situated where it should be. I know the litter was a problem but since the bin has been erected this problem has improved greatly. |
