My own personal opinion is that the bench should be replaced.
Firstly, I totally agree that the litter around the bench was TOTALLY unacceptable and no one in the village wants to see that. Once the bin was installed the situation did improve – my only concern is that it is rather a small bin and will soon fill up and overflow.
However, what is the point in installing the bin only to remove the bench anyway after a few days??!
I have lived in Cogenhoe all my life and each generation has had its own group of “bored teenagers” loitering somewhere around the village. In my generation we would congregate on the wall outside the club (now removed) or in the fort in the park (removed).
The trouble is that many of the people complaining about the bench forget that their kids were one day the “youth of the village” – and I remember very clearly that some of them were a lot more trouble then our current generation of teenagers. The trouble is, these kids are at the in between stage, too young to go into town etc but to old to be sat in. We have ALL been there and trying to “remove” them is not going to work!! Where exactly do you suggest we remove them too?!
We can’t keep on removing any potential congregation point – this is not going to make the kids disappear for heaven sake!
What we need to do is that the kids need somewhere to hang out – why can’t we provide a shelter for them in the park or something? Somewhere they can sit whether it rains or is sunny?
I find it interesting that so far no-one has posted a message supporting the removal of the bench! |
