As the nearest resident to the bench in question I would like to say that approximately ten years ago I was asked if I objected to a bench being erected next to my house. I did not object then and I dont object now. Over the years groups of teenagers have always gathered there and have never given me cause for concern. When my children were young I spoke to the group at the time to keep the noise level down and they respected my wishes and I have spoken on several occasions to the present group regarding the litter which I admit was getting to be a major problem, and since the bin was placed there they were using it well. They DID NOT vandalise the bin, in fact they reported to me that the bottom kept falling out and after investigating I discovered a faulty catch which I then report to South Northants District Council. The bench was donated by a village resident for all to use. Many residents need to sit and rest whether they be catching a bus or going to the shop.I have heard that the police would like the tree covered in ivy behind the bench site to be removed which I think is a very good idea. The litter was a big problem before the bin but I,m sorry I would much rather clear up a few sweet wrappers and cans than dog mess and somebodys left over dinner which was placed over the bench and on the pavement infront by a grown adult which children are supposed to look up to. My two boys were disgusted and to me this was the criminal offence! |
