Yes, please have your dogs spayed and neutered. It is the only way to control the dog population. Dr. Bizzell will be on island tomorrow and Sat. Not sure if he still does, but he used to spay and neuter local "Bahamian" dogs for free. ie: If you are a tourist/winter resident don't expect him to do the dog you brought with you from Us/Canada etc. for free - that's just taking advantage. Many local dogs are family pets yet roam outdoors and are constantly producing a litter which goes on to produce etc. Then these dogs "leave home" and roam further, scrounging food and forming these packs. That's why they need to be fixed ASAP, but understandably this is not a financial priority for many families and thank goodness for the vet doing it free. We just have to encourage people to get their dogs done. |
