Ahhh... Silverwolf. I'm fully with Bad Comics Fan on this. This stuff was pure B&W violent pulp, which was why I loved it. Being a violent, dumb teenager at the time, I ate up this kind of shtick. Grips and the art of Tim Vigil were my primary reason for digging Silverwolf initially... but I did pick up several other titles, Fat ninja, Dungeoneers (sp?), Thieves, and some of the later GMC titles as well. Flatly, what I liked about his work: he swore, main characters died and got seriously wounded/maimed, it was a easy/quick read, and violent as all hell. It gave the comics a real underground vibe, and it made you feel like you were reading something that you weren't supposed to. It was forbidden fruit. Lol. Looking back it obviously wasn't that controversial or dangerous... just some dumb violent fantasy crap. But whatever if I'm feeling particularly primitive, I'll put on some death metal and read a few issues of Grips and still get a kick out of the whole thing. Not to say that I wouldn't mind checking out some more of Kris Silvers writings if he was ever to come out with books. |
