Message:   1)I have all of the Grips Adventures run. I do not remember who wrote the last few issues(so it might have been Dave Law) but they were not good in any case. IIRC the story had something to do with Grips going to IRaq and hunting down Saddam, with the aid of "Claw", a POW or somesuch who had been mutated into a broken-english speaking monster. WIll re-read to refresh memory.

2)Yes, I have never worked for Kris, what is your point here? Whether Kris "had a vision" or not is a subjective assessment and irrelevant to the discussion. Ed Wood "had a vision" and he was the worst writer/director ever to work in film.
I enjoy Ed Wood's work the same way I enjoy Kris Silver's.

3)It is not just that Kris' characters were "cliche at the time". Hell, I could care less about that which is why I did not hammer this point home. Most of the characters I enjoyed could be said to be pretty cliche. And yes, there were a TON of "blood bath" clones infesting the market back then. This is also irrelevant to my criticism of Kris.
What made Kris' stuff uniquely bad was his absolute lack of any writing ability or education/training. It was not just that his characters were cliche, because actually they were NOT all that cliche when you think about it(or at least not anymore so than books put out by other publishers). As I said, Kris' dialogue was just horrible. His characters lacked personality adn were all clones of EACH OTHER! Go back and read my precious posts adn address my actual criticisms if you want but I have no dog in this fight about "who was more cliche?".

4)I think you need to look up the term "Strawman",a s you are misusing it here(inexcuseable for a professional writer). A strawman is a logical fallacy that occurs when one attacks a position that the opposition(in the debate) does not hold or attacks a distortion of the opposition's position/argument which is far easier to tackle than his actual position/argument. You commited this fallacy when you attacked the "No bad characters, only bad writers" thing becuase I was never making such an simplistic argument.

5)What is your point regarding dozens of characters who were not well recieved until proper writers took them over? This is largely irrelevant because NONE of those characters were so lacking in...er, characterization, as Kris'. Just because Chris Nowlan and David Goyer were able to make Batman an intriguing character on film when all previous attempts had failed(re: under Burton/Hamm and later Schumacher) does not mean that Nowlan could take(or would WANT to) the characters from "American Ninja V" or some porno' movie and make them great characters in a great movie(sans parody/satire).
Kris' characters are on par with the characters in porn movies and THAT is an insult to porn-movie characters if it is an insult to anyone.

6)I don't recall asking for your writing credentials. I never claimed you were NOT a writer and was operating under the assumption that you WERE, so I don't understand why you felt the need to list them here!?
Also, there are PLENTY of writers recieving paychecks who have no real talent(John Grisham comes immediately to mind).

7)I do NOT 'go through life only seeing negativity' and this is both a strawman AND an ad hominem(attacking the character of the person to avoid addressing the arguments he makes). Kris is simply the absolute worst writer to have ever scripted a comic book. It is not that we cannot find SOMETHING, however miniscule, of merit in Kris' writing. It is simply that his writing was so overwelmingly BAD that to do so would be like looking on the bright side of a train derailment.
This is further evidenced by the fact that even YOU, perhaps Kris' staunchest defender, were unable to refute any of my critique.

Replying to:

If you want an example of how a Silverwolf character could be handled properly you might want to re-read some of Dave Law's Grips tales which I believed appeared in Grips Adventures under the Great Mercury Comics imprint. Despite writing under type restrictions assigned him by Kris he still managed to put out some interesting work.
You are probably unaware of the particulars of working for Kris as either a writer or artist. Having both worked for Kris-I was to write Legion X-1 but the GMC line was canceled before that happened-and known people who have worked for Kris (Dave Law and Bill Holloway immediately come to mind) I can tell you that for right or wrong Kris had a particular vision of how he wanted things done. Yes; his characters did come across as fairly cliche for the time but I can say without a doubt that there were a lot of characters by other publishers who jumped on the "blood bath" band wagon. As for my statement regarding "no such thing as bad characters, just bad writers" it's only a straw man in your eyes. I could list dozens of characters that when they first came out in the past they were not well received but with proper writers they became fan faves.
As for my writing credentials; I've been a professional writer since 1976 and have written for radio, television, magazines, newspapers, fanzines and comics. Currently I am a newspaper reporter and columnist and also do a fair bit of freelance writing on the side. As for comics companies I have worked for over the years they include Brainstorm, Caliber, Blue Moon Comics, Abyss, Intercomics, New Voice Productions and Silver Griffin Comics. I have also sold an Aetos the Eagle story to the series' creator Dan Parsons and have edited comics for Silver Griffin and Blue Moon. I could go on with regards to my credentials but I won't. I can though state without a doubt that I wouldn't be receiving a regular pay cheque if I didn't have some kind of skills.
In closing I would like to say i have no real interest in trying to convince you that there is some merit in what Kris did. I do though question someone's state of mind who sees only the negative and can't open his or her mind to some positive aspects of things. Personally I find that aproach to looking at things far too of a depressing way to go through life.
